Reflections from the Google Summit

Posted on 20/06/202620/06/2026 by Farayi Dzichauya

This week I had a chance to attend the Google Summit. A welcome opportunity to step back from the day-to-day of cybersecurity and connect with peers across the industry.

One of the most compelling themes that came across, was how teams in financial services are using AI to augment their workflows. The headline narrative that AI will replace jobs doesn’t appear to reflect the lived reality on the ground. What is playing out is something more nuanced. AI seems to be helping organisations move people up the value chain by freeing them from repetitive tasks and enabling them to focus more on higher-order thinking tasks.

The concept of the agentic soc – a security operations centre powered by autonomous AI agents. This was a particularly thought-provoking area of discussion. It’s a space that’s evolving quickly, and one that will be worth watching closely in the months and years ahead.
